Have you ever wondered how a limousine is made? The following photographs take you
through the fascinating construction of our Excursion SUV in California, from its concept to
its full glory!
THE DONOR CHASSIS
Stretch limousines are not manufactured
as you see the on the road. They are
constructed from a standard car, cut and
then stretched to the required length.
Our initial meeting with the coach builder
was to decide on the colour, layout and
specifications of the final vehicle. Based
on our decisions, the next step was to
source a 'donor car' to be stretched.
Our 2005 Excursion XLT donor car was
purchased from Ford (America) and
delivered to California ready for its
transformation to begin...
THE CUT
After the removal of the standard
seating, the next stage of the
build was the cutting of the
vehicle. The jig was set to the
required length of the stretch,
ready for insertion of the
supporting steel (fig.2).
Meanwhile all existing windows
were removed for tinting,
bumpers removed and areas
masked ready for its final coat of
paint.
THE STRETCH
After the insertion of the
supporting steel, the new custom
made floor, roof and body panels
were added to the vehicle and
sanded to hide any joins or
imperfections.
The vinyl roof and full length
custom made running boards
were added and then the whole
vehicle was prepared for the
paint shop.
THE INTERIOR
After the paint came the interior.
Strengthened from the inside and
fully insulated, next came the
lengthy process of running all of
the required electrical cables,
fibre optics and hoses for the
lighting, air conditioning etc.
The custom made seating, bar,
carpeting and mirrored ceilings
were then added.
THE END
Finally the windows were inserted, light conversion performed and 20" custom chrome wheels added. Our Excursion was then delivered to the docks to embark on its 3 week journey to the UK,to join our fleet.
